Ex date, record date and payment date

Maintained by Dividends.sg · Guide reviewed 17 September 2026

An issuer can publish several dates for one dividend. They answer different questions and should not be substituted for one another.

Illustrative timeline — not an announced dividend
  1. 5 May · Ex-dateShares trade without this dividend entitlement.
  2. 6 May · Record dateThe issuer checks the eligible holders.
  3. 20 May · Payment dateThe issuer schedules payment; broker credit can differ.

Ex-dividend date

The ex date is the market date shown by SGX and the issuer for the share to trade without the dividend entitlement. It is the date we use to place an event in a year or TTM window. Check the announcement for the applicable cum date and market timetable.

Record date

The record date is used to determine which holders are entitled after the issuer’s books or register are checked. A company announcement may also state when its transfer books close and the conditions for entitlement.

Payment date

The payment date is when the issuer says the dividend will be paid, subject to the terms in the announcement. It can be later than the ex date by several days or weeks.

A reliable checking routine

  1. Find the event in SGX Corporate Actions or the issuer’s investor-relations page.
  2. Read ex, record and payment dates from the same event notice.
  3. Compare the ticker, event type, currency and rate with the local row.

The DBS Q1 2026 official update is a useful example: it states the ex date, payment date and record-date process together.
